2008 Literacy Tutor Conference

This 2008 Literacy Tutor Conference was one of the best yet! This year's conference was March 15, 2008. Once again, thanks to the generosity of REED college, the conference was held at the beautiful Southeast Portland campus of REED College. Attendees of the 2008 conference included educators and tutors from across the states of Oregon and Washington, as well as student learners from around the world.

Each year the Portland Literacy Council sponsors the Literacy Tutor Conference with the goal of bringing together literacy educators and tutors to exchange ideas, develop new teaching strategies, and hone tutoring skills. This year's conference included educational presentations, hands-on learning workshops, a feature documentary film, students speakers, and a fabulous buffet lunch. Attendees had the opportunity to chose between more than a dozen different scheduling options. Undoubtedly, this year, as in years past, one of the many highlights of the conference was the inspirational life stories shared by the student speakers.

Workshop Presenters Make It Possible

The Portland Literacy Council extends a gracious "THANK YOU" to all of the literacy workshop presenters who helped to make this year's conference so successful. Without the efforts of this spirited group of educators, developing and implementing the conference would be impossible.

REED College

The yearly success of the Tutor Conference is due in large part to the generosity of REED College. Since its founding in 1908 as an independent undergraduate institution, Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, has remained steadfast to one central commitment: to provide a balanced, comprehensive education in liberal arts and sciences, fulfilling the highest standards of intellectual excellence.

Conference 2009

Plans are already in the works for next year's conference. The date will be March, 14, 2009 and it looks to be even bigger and better than before! We hope to see you there!
